Today's Black History Month Spotlight is Travis Royall, the Director of Community Relations of Brandywine Living at Potomac! Q: What is the most important event or milestone to occur in your lifetime? A: There are several things, but the one that sticks out the most is that my oldest son Tyler has received a partial athletic and academic scholarship to play football at Assumption University in Worcester, Mass. Seeing him get the opportunity to pursue his dreams is extremely rewarding. Q: Who has been the most inspiring leader to influence you in your personal and professional career? A: The two people that have had the most influence in my life personally and professionally are found within my immediate family. Growing up, my father instilled the importance of hard work. I can still hear him repeating that there are no shortcuts in life. His dedication to work and providing for his family has become the blueprint that I have set to raise my two sons Tyler (18) and Trenton (14) by. My wife Elissa of 20 years has been such an inspiration in my professional career. After many years of working in advertising, which was my dream job, I needed to make a change and watching her learn new positions as a Assisted Principal and now acting Elementary School principal proved that if I carry the same work ethic and principals I would do just fine in a new industry. Q: What is the most important conversation that the business community should be having? A: After nearly 20 years working as a marketing/advertising professional in Montgomery County, these times aren't much different than those experienced during the economic crisis of 2008. As businesses are looking to recover, we should be discussing what we are doing to remain relevant. Sadly, many business owners don't have the discretionary budgets to continue to advertise, but it imperative to remain top of mind for their particular industry.
