We Are . . . The Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce
DMB Pictures & Melanie Folstad of RBC Wealth Management
Legacy is about life and living.  It’s about learning from the past, living in the present and building for the future.  Earlier this month, two chamber members, Debbie Brodsky of DMB Pictures & Melanie Folstad of RBC Wealth Management, gathered together with their clients for dinner at Seasons 52 to discuss the value of legacy.  During the evening, those gathered discussed the importance of capturing family stories, sharing family values, hopes & dreams,  and the treasured heirloom that is left for generations to come when those memories can be captured and preserved. It was a wonderful evening of reminiscing over family stories. If you’ve been trying to figure out how to leave a lasting financial legacy, contact Melanie at melanie.folstad@rbc.com.   If you want to leave a lasting impact with the legacy of the wisdom you’ve acquired over a lifetime, contact Debbie at debbie@dmbpictures.com and find out how to get started.

4935 Bar and Kitchen and Gallery Bethesda
Gallery Bethesda held their Grand Opening on June 5, 2014 as the first new residential building to open in Bethesda in five years.  As the management team prepared for a VIP reception as luxurious as the apartments in the building, they went to the B-CC Chamber's webpage to seek a fellow member to serve as caterer.  That was where they found 4935 Bar and Kitchen and as a result, Chef Ashish Alfred and his team catered the reception with a beautiful cheese station and passed hors d'oeuvres such as sliced tenderloin with horseradish cream atop crostini and pumpernickel rounds topped with smoked salmon and lemon buttercream.

Joan Huke, LegalShield and Dr. Chaudhary, NTC Dental
Joan Huke, Independent Associate for LegalShield, met Dr. Chaudhary and members of her staff at one of the Chamber’s Power Networking Breakfasts at Timpano’s near the office of NTC Dental.  It was Dr. Chaudhary’s first event with the Chamber and Joan not only welcomed her warmly to membership but was able to share a bit about her business.  The two agreed to meet at NTC Dental at a later date to discuss more and at that time Dr. Chaudhary and one of her staff members both saw the value in the services of LegalShield and decided to sign-up.  Joan and Dr. Chaudhary then made plans to meet up at another Chamber event, a luncheon, and are now building a strong professional relationship!

Steve Robinson, Comcast and Alan Pohoryles, Roof Bethesda

Opening a business is an adventure in problem solving. Roof Bethesda needed immediate internet and phone service. From one provider they were told they were already wired and ready to go, then they were told they'd have to wait 45 days. The Chamber put Alan Pohoryles in touch with Steve Robinson of Comcast Business. Steve and his crew fast tracked the install and were able to provide internet service that was 15x faster than the original vendor and at a price that was far less. It was all up and running within a week!

Kevin O'Reilly and Eagle Bank

When not at work running Emerald Financial Group, Kevin O'Reilly serves at the Treasurer for the Greater Washington Section of the Mercedes Benz Club.  In his role as Treasurer, Kevin made the decision to change the bank account for the club to EagleBank, as a direct result of their being members of the Chamber.

American Inn and Hoover-Fisher Florist

Michele Clipper of Hoover-Fisher Florist and Darryl Calloway, General Manager at American Inn met recently at an After Hours networking event.  As conversation grew they realized they had a common desire to make clients feel comfort and beauty by service and environment.  Darryl had a lobby he wanted to spruce up and Michele created beautiful floral arrangements.  The two came together and within a few days the lobby of American Inn was filled with greenery that was inviting and bright.

Alexander Assaley and Lawrence Kotchek

At a recent meeting, members were discussing visibility and effective ways to achieve maximum coverage for minimum cost.  It was mentioned that taking advantage of the full color, bulk run pricing for postcards was a great idea.  Alexander Assaley of AFS Financial Group, heard this and contacted Lawrence Kotchek of Print 1 for more information.  Since that time Alex and Lawrence have partnered to produce three “gang run” postcard printings for Alex’s company.  “Not only has the product been professionally done and quickly turned around, our company has saved over $700 in printing costs in these three print jobs alone.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Print 1 and Lawrence to anyone.”

Suzanne Kim D.D.S. and EagleBank

Suzanne H. Kim, D.D.S. attended several networking events upon joining the Chamber and she was constantly being told how everyone “loved” EagleBank.  Great timing, as the bank Dr. Kim was doing business with was about to merge with a large regional bank.
She transferred her business to EagleBank after meeting, Tom Murphy and Kai Hills.  They, as do all of the other employees, exemplified the personal and professional relationship that she was looking for from a bank.

During Tom Murphy’s Chamber presidency, he would often joke about breaking a tooth or having a tooth ache!  After actually breaking a tooth, it was not longer a joking matter.  Tom’s dental dilemma was soon remedied by Dr. Kim.  Not too long after that, Tom’s wife and son became patients and he continually refers patients to her from the bank.
