Starting your own business is an exciting and busy adventure.  We offer the following resources as a starting point to help you navigate your way through the process.  While the majority of these references are federal, state and local government offices which have expertise in the rules, regulations and licenses required, some of the references are business organizations that are focused on helping beginning business owners.

Counseling & Training
SCORE® - SCORE® is a nationwide non-profit volunteer association of over 11,500 retired and active small business owners, executives and professionals. As a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration, it provides free counseling to small businesses. The Washington, D.C. Chapter has over 40 members experienced in owning and operating both small and large businesses in almost every field. Small Business Administration (SBA) - The SBA provides information on starting a business, business plans, financing, and more, and provides links to information on licensing, taxes and workers compensation regulations by state. Visit www.sba.gov or call (800) 827-5722.

Maryland Small Business Development Center - Capital Region - http://www.capitalregionsbdc.umd.edu/
Corridor Region provides Free Counseling and Low-Cost Training services to new and existing businesses. Designed for all stages of business development, themed workshops range from transforming ideas into business plans, to developing growth strategies for existing businesses.  The Corridor Regions provides a road map to support and develop small businesses through every stage of their business development.

Montgomery County Business Portal Montgomery County Business Portal
Based on input from the Montgomery County Business Survey conducted in August 2016, the County Executive determined that improving access to information was an important step in making it easier for a business to start, grow and thrive in the County. This portal is designed to address that need and provide a gateway to information on how Montgomery County interacts with the business community. This resource encompasses much of the information needed to start a business.

Montgomery County Department of Economic Development – Small Business Services

Maryland Department of Commerce - As the state's primary economic development agency, they stimulate private investment and create jobs by attracting new businesses, encouraging the expansion and retention of existing companies, and providing workforce training and financial assistance to Maryland companies.
